Managing Parental Stress

Managing Parental Stress During A Pandemic

Parenting is hard under normal circumstances, and now parents are having to do so during the COVID-19 pandemic while sheltering at home. Add in financial instability, uncertainty about work, and general worry about the health and well-being of your loved ones, it can feel overwhelming.

On May 18, 2020, Supervisor Carson hosted a virtual town hall to check-in with parents talk about their stress and the mental health impacts on children, as well as share advice for coping and resources available to help. Supervisor Carson was joined by three expert panelists:

  • Mary Jayne Sims, Ph.D Psychological Services UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland
  • Kim San Gabriel, AMFT Family Support Coordinator Family Paths, Inc.
  • Carla Keener, Director of Programs, First 5 Alameda County
