Another mass shooting and dozens of lives changed forever. My condolences to all who were impacted by this latest event in Monterey Park.

Tragically, guns are taking lives every day. We hold a shared responsibility to step up our movement against violence of all kinds – not just against guns and the increased purchase of them (legal and illegal) – but to consciously embrace our varied differences.

Every time there is a violent incident, we hear that “this must stop.” It will never stop if we don’t change the laws that are contradictory to what has been proven not to work at reducing gun purchase and gun use. We must also intensify our campaign around violence with a specific focus on our API and Black and Brown communities, as well as providing greater mental wellness support and awareness for all of our communities.

Each one of us together can change the direction this country. Until we do, these events will, unfortunately, continue to occur.
