About Nikki Fortunato Bas
Nikki Fortunato Bas was elected in 2024 to serve District 5 on the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. Before that, she served as Oakland City Councilmember from 2019 to 2024 and as Council President from 2021 to 2024 and as Interim Mayor from December 2024 to January 2025. She has championed community-centered policies and budgeting. She led the passage of the strongest COVID-19 eviction moratorium in California and a COVID-19 grocery work hazard pay covering 2,000 workers. She created a fund for community land trusts to prevent displacement and create permanently affordable community-owned housing, introduced a progressive corporate tax and led a task force to reimagine public safety in Oakland.
